Report from the coast – Something wicked this way comes

From all up and down the coast come reports of tens of thousands of dying Blue-footed diving seabirds called cassin’s auklets, including this one, have been washing up on beaches from San Francisco to central British Columbia.

It appears that starvation is the culprit. A successful breeding season which created a huge population, at exactly the time that climatic issues with warming water may have significantly reduced their primary food source, but why just one species?  And it’s a bigger die off by many magnitudes to anything seen previously, including the Exxon Valdez kill.
