Report from the coast – Something wicked this way comes

From all up and down the coast come reports of tens of thousands of dying Blue-footed diving seabirds called cassin’s auklets, including this one, have been washing up on beaches from San Francisco to central British Columbia.

It appears that starvation is the culprit. A successful breeding season which created a huge population, at exactly the time that climatic issues with warming water may have significantly reduced their primary food source, but why just one species?  And it’s a bigger die off by many magnitudes to anything seen previously, including the Exxon Valdez kill.

Here’s the best story on it so far.

What is going on? Is it going to affect other species? Including us?
