“Ocean with David Attenborough” is a 2025 National Geographic documentary in which Sir David Attenborough explores Earth’s oceans, their threats, and the hope for large‑scale marine recovery. The documentary highlights the beauty and ecological importance of coral reefs, kelp forests, and the open ocean while addressing industrial fishing, ocean warming, and mass coral bleaching. Attenborough emphasizes that restoring ocean health is essential for planetary stability.

Larry McGaughey is a retired Environmental Engineer. He spent his career working primarily in Texas and Washington, characterizing and cleaning up contaminated industrial and governmental sites as well as doing environmental permitting. He holds degrees in chemical and environmental engineering. Larry also served 9 years as an interpretation volunteer at the Seattle Aquarium and as a docent for about 2 years at the Port Townsend Maritime Center aquarium.
Larry got his scuba diving certification in 2008, doing open water dives in Puget Sound, just north of Seattle. He soon began cold-water diving regularly, initially logging around 100 dives a year and got his wife and daughters into Puget Sound diving. Larry got his first underwater camera setup in 2010 and started taking photos on almost every dive. Diving and underwater photography have taken him and his wife to Mexico, Honduras, Grenada, Iceland, St. Eustaitius, Turks & Caicos, British Columbia, the Philippines, the Maldives, Palau, and Indonesia.
