Dog feces found to be in air over Detroit, and probably elsewhere

You may have seen the recent ads from the Puget Sound Partnership, and my latest video on behalf of WSU Beachwatchers on “Scoop the Poop.”

More fuel for the fire of teaching people to pick up their dog waste. In addition to getting into our water, like the Sound & Strait, it also becomes airborne.

From the Detroit Free Press is a report on how researchers have found that in winter bacteria from dog poop hovers over the city. Study finds bacteria from dog feces in Detroit’s sky http://www.heraldnet.com/article/20110821/NEWS02/708219922/-1/News

  1. This does give new meaning to the studies on atmospheric deposition that show particles of pollution are coming from China and landing in Washington….they have a lot of dogs in China…( :

  2. How Ridiculous! The current critical toxic condition of Puget Sound, contaminated marine waters, dangerous fecal bacteria, toxic PCP’s, vast storm drain networks spewing concentrated poison, rampant shoreline septic failures, are not the result of dog poop!

Right now, billions of EPA grant dollars, awarded to Washington State need to build waste water treatment facilities. Feces must be stopped from entering our marine waters, lakes and streams.

As METRO cleaned up Lake Washington, Union, Portage Bay, Lake Sammamish, and all other King County waters in 1950-60’s, WE MUST SAVE PUGET SOUND!

We don’t need anymore posters or newly designed and printed redundant brochures. We cannot rely on volunteers and scout troops planting eelgrass to save Puget Sound. State, Federal, County agencies with all the control, resources and power, order and execute all solutions to Save Puget Sound!

    • Well, I hear you. To be clear, there is a problem with dog waste, but right, there are so many more important issues. It’s one of a laundry list of issues that need our support in reversing, given the trends in human and canine population! Dog poop is no different than human waste. It’s fecal matter. It all goes into the Sound or Strait if not dealt with. It’s one small thing anyone owning a dog can do to help out.
