PubliCola, has gotten the first public statement by the new Governor-Elect, Jay Inslee outlining his environmental agenda.
There are strong positive statements in this Op-Ed piece. I suppose the worrisome thing in reading this is his insistence on expansion of biofuels. If it leads to more experimentation with non –corn based fuels, that could be good. But remember, the issues we are facing with the mills on the Peninsula converting to biomass is all part of this effort to get us to “biofuels”. It’s a very loose term that people have defined in ways that not clearly known to be ‘environmentally’ beneficial. It is worth reminding readers that the law that was passed to allow biomass and other biofuels was passed at the height of the last decade’s "energy crisis” and in the law it states it is ‘experimental’. Nothing has changed that reading.
