Jefferson County Wing of the Sierra Club To Meet

At 7:00pm Wednesday March 9th, the Jefferson County group of the North Olympic Chapter of the Sierra Club will meet at the PT  Community Center for an issues conversation meeting.

According to N.O. Chapter’s Bob Lynette, there are approximately four hundred Sierra Clubbers living in Jefferson County.  The climate for affecting serious change in action and policy is now.  Sierra Club played a strong role in helping Commissioner John Austin and others get elected.

We will explore the hot button issues in Jefferson County, like biomass cogeneration, and making sure the Shoreline Master Program gets adopted.

There are over arching issues as well.   Developers are eyeing land conversions of our forests and farmlands.   Local farming and food security is the rallying cry that could spawn small hobby farms instead of serious commercial agriculture.

We need to focus on priority short term and long term issues and strategies.   We need people to monitor not only beaches, rivers and creeks, and wetlands, but also agencies, commissions, and councils.   Our presence in the room is very effective.

Bring your thoughts, ideas, and issues, and how we can preserve and protect Jefferson County’s environment.
